Knit & Spin May Newsletter

                                                     .

May 6, 2023

I'm pretty sure that all of you are just as ready as me to kick this cold weather out of here and get on with the warm! May is gonna be a busy month around Knit & Spin!

First up is Yarn Quest! For nine whole days, May 12 through May 20, 2023, each of the participating shops will have daily drawings, as well as yarn discounts, free patterns and special little commemoratives. Don't stress if you don't have your passport yet, they are still available now and throughout the quest (only one per participant, please) for $10 and obtainable at:

Knit & Spin, Montague

When you present your passport at each shop, you'll receive a stamp to mark that visit. At your last stop, turn in the passport to enter the final drawing. You must have stamps from all eight shops to qualify for entry into the Grand Prize drawing. Be sure to check the WMYQ Facebook and Instagram pages often, like and share the posts so the word gets out! All the details are there including prize information and other fun stuff.  The shops are observing some extended hours to accommodate everyone, but you can call or check the shop's webpages if you have questions. The hours have also been printed on each passport for your convenience. There will be lots and lots of new yarns and other gadgets and gewgaws to be had for Yarn Quest! New stuff is arriving and being unpacked around the clock!

When you visit Knit & Spin plan to grab a meal at any one of the many fabulous restaurants in town or relax with a cocktail at a craft brewery or the Meadery, which is right next door. Several places are located near us on Water Street too (we are at 8868 Water Street).

*Oh Brothers 9521 Water St (full bar and restaurant starting at noon)
*Bardic Wells Meadery 8844 Water St (drinks starting at 2pm)
North Grove Brewers 8735 Water St (house made food and drinks)
Book Nook and Java House 8744 Ferry Street (food and drinks)
#Sawyers Brewing Company 4574 Dowling St (house made drinks; occasional weekend food truck)

The * places are closed on Mondays and/or Tues; # are closed on Sunday. This is only a fraction of what is in the area but are all small businesses like us, who really appreciate your support. Most of the places I've listed keep afternoon and evening hours, however, if you have questions, look them up and give them a call. They will give you up to the minute information.

Wool, wool, wool! My favorite subject! When folks ask what my hobby is, I just tell them WOOL! It's hard for me to pick just one aspect of it, it's so glorious. Do you ever wonder where the wool comes from for the yarn you buy? It isn't like acrylic yarn, (I'm not going to get political here), but it comes from animals, and they have to be cared for. The Livestock Conservancy https://livestockconservancy.org is an association for breeders/keepers of livestock (as well as lovers of all things animal), to include pigs, rabbits, poultry and cattle, as well as sheep and goats, and whose mission is "to protect America's endangered livestock and poultry breeds from extinction." They are non-profit and according to Stephanie Schmideknecht, have a wealth of information. There is a lot on their website about what they do and how they support their members and I encourage you to go there and see for yourself. You don't need to be a producer to be a member. They go hand-in-hand with the Shave 'Em To Save 'Em initiative. You certainly don't need to be a hand spinner to be a member of Shave 'Em so have a look there too. In in the coming weeks, I'll be talking a little about Heritage Breed Week coming up the end of the month.

Knit & Spin Birthday Club! The next time you make a purchase here at K&S, let us know your birth month and day so we can send a gift to your inbox on your special day! Just another way for us to show appreciation to all of our loyal customers.

Save the date! Saturday, June 10 we will have a canopy set up in front of the shop for Worldwide Knit in Public Day. What is World Knit in Public Day (wwkipday.com) you ask? It's a day to share each other's company and bring awareness to knitting. We want to showcase it as an enjoyable activity for all ages and to change the stigma that it is just for Grandmas! If you've never tried knitting in public, you should! Of course, its best done in places where you least expect to see it but anywhere is great. Bring your knitting, a camp chair and a lunch and spend the day with us. I foresee many more hang days under the canopy if you know what I mean...

LYS Day was a success! THANK YOU!!

It was still a bit cold to hang out too long under the canopy, but it was definitely fun!
